So what is boudoir photography really about?
According to Wikipedia…” Boudoir photography is a photographic style featuring intimate, sensual, romantic, and sometimes erotic images of its subjects in a photographic studio, bedroom or private dressing room environment, primarily intended for the private enjoyment of the subjects and their romantic partners.”
Ok, but what does that mean?
This is about celebrating YOU. This is an experience where we will capture your beauty and your story. Whether it’s casually romantic images or artistic nudes is completely up to you. There is no right or wrong, regardless of what you choose your images will be stunning!
I am not a model, I don't know how to pose. I don’t know if I can be “sexy”, will you help me?
Absolutely! I will help guide you through each and every pose. We’ll begin with a pre-session discussion and posing guide. At the start of the session we will go over the key details – but don’t worry, I’ll demonstrate each pose and guide you through each movement!
Everyone is nervous at the start, but you will soon relax and enjoy the flow (especially when you see how empowering the photos look!).
I aim to ensure you feel comfortable and have a wonderful, magical experience!
Do I need to find my own Hair & Makeup Artist?
No, part of your experience will include professional (only the highest quality!) hair and makeup. We’ll discuss the look prior to the big day.
What should I bring? What do I need to do before the shoot?
We’ll go over the details, the looks, and determine what are the best outfits to bring. I can recommend lingerie stores that will help find you outfits that fit your style perfectly.
You will receive a pre-shoot checklist that clearly details everything.
How long will this all take?
Day of…
Professional makeup + hairstyling:
The shoot:
30 – 45 minutes
1 – 1.5 hours
2 -3 hours
How long before photos are ready for viewing: 1-2 weeks on average – we will schedule a reveal meeting to review the edited photos and the collections (albums, products, etc.) offered.
Product production: 4-6 weeks from the session to delivery.
How many outfits can I shoot in? Can I add additional time to accommodate more outfits?
2-4 outfits is a reasonable number. I don’t put a limit on the outfits, but it takes time to change and will mean less time for the photography.
Yes, if you would like to shoot in additional outfits, we can add additional shooting time. This will incur an additional cost.
Do I need to be nude?
No! We’ll discuss what your comfort level is before the shoot. There is no right or wrong. Clear communication before the shoot, as well as during, will help bring comfort throughout the experience.
What options are there for the photos – lighting, colors, etc.?
There are 3 options for the mood and lighting – Light, Dark, Neon and Wet.
- Light: This is bright, soft light and what has been used in glamour (think Playboy) photography. In photography-speak, this is called ‘high-key lighting’.
- Dark: This is darker with more contrast. This creates a more mysterious mood, more drama and emotion, leaving more to the imagination and highlighting curves and details nicely. This is often used for artistic, black and white nude photographs. This is also referred to as ‘low-key lighting’.
- Neon: This is a dramatic look that incorporates different colors. It is a high-contrast look, similar to Dark but with a variety of colors. This would include 2 color sets (4 colors total).
- Wet: This is a shower setting. This is a sexy, seductive look that can incorporate dramatic light colors, water droplets, wet hair, etc. Note that it is not taking an actual shower, it is a set created to offer the look of one.
Can I bring someone to the shoot?
The most important thing is your comfort. I want you to feel at home, relaxed (as much as possible!), and ready to have fun! If bringing someone to the shoot will help aid in your comfort level please feel free to bring someone.
There are a few notes to consider. The first is ‘will the person distract you from our communication and your connection with the moment’? Significant others can sometimes distract your attention, which will detract from the overall experience and be visible in the photos. Even though the intention is purely to help and provide support, a sig other can sometimes make you feel self-conscious, or inspiring ‘posing for them’. Friends can do this, too, but it really depends.
I have had wonderful, supporting sig others and friends that helped with every aspect of the shoot and we all had a blast.
One option is to bring someone, and they can wait outside of the studio, grab a coffee, etc.
We can discuss all of this in more detail and what will be the best for your session.
This will be a professional shoot in a professional setting. My goal is to create a stunning and memorable story that you will be proud of, in a comfortable and safe environment.
Where will the shoot be? Can you shoot in other locations?
Our session will be in a loft located conveniently just outside of downtown Denver. I do offer the option of select hotel rooms and select homes (hourly rental) if there is a specific look and feel you are after. Note that this may require additional planning and cost for the room.
Outdoors can be an option as well.
Should I tip?
It’s customary to tip a hair and makeup artist. Tipping a photographer is a growing trend, although certainly not anything expected (but appreciated!).
Do you shoot men? Couples? Alternative lifestyle costumes?
Yes, yes, and yes! I am quite comfortable with all of the above and have experience in each of these arenas. Communication ahead of time is vital to ensure we tell YOUR story in the best light.
Do you Photoshop? Can you make me thinner? What about my skin?
Yes….and no. YOU are beautiful and special, I don’t want to diminish the authenticity of your story. The combination of posing, lighting, and outfits will eliminate most of these thoughts or concerns (trust me!).
All images will have professional editing, including color corrections and basic skin editing (blemishes, etc.). Please note that I do truly believe you are beautiful as you are. While I do edit the skin, I will not blur it to the point of being unrecognizable. Authentic is beautiful!
Do digital images come with the session? Do I get the unedited photos?
You will get the fully edited digital images for the package that you purchase (digital images do not come with the session fee itself). For example, if you purchase an album with 20 photos, you will receive those 20 images as digital files.
No, I cannot provide unedited files. I want to make sure that you have the highest quality images that match the quality level of my portfolio (why you came to me).
How do I get my products?
You can pick them up at the studio. I prefer to inspect the items prior to delivery to ensure that everything is of the highest quality possible. If this is inconvenient, we can discuss other options.
If I wanted to do erotic or fetish-type shoot, can you do that? BDSM?
Yes. We will go over exactly what this means to you. I do have years of experience photographing more intimate shoots and will make sure you are comfortable throughout.
Please ask for examples. My portfolio of fetish, erotic, etc., is not on this website (I have a separate website for nude and fetish/erotic work).
Are there payment plans?
Yes. I offer interest-free payment plans to help you at your own pace. Please ask about the details and different options.
Will my images be displayed anywhere? Your website? Social media?
The simple answer is nowhere. Your privacy is paramount. Your photos will never be shown to anyone, on any platform.
If you are comfortable with your images being added to my portfolio, whether it’s on the website or only in private meetings with other clients, that would always be greatly appreciated.
Have you ever done a boudoir shoot?
Yes! It was a blast. I think it’s important to experience what it is like on both sides of the lens. While it was slightly different for a man, it did cover everything from portraits to nudes.
Also note that I go through every single pose that I will guide you through myself (and have a growing, personal portfolio of these!).
